Welcome to the 4th Conference of the European Association for Sociology of Sport (eass): Local Sport in Europe
The city of Münster, the University of Münster and the organizing team invite you to the 4th Conference of the European Association for Sociology of Sport (eass) to be held in Münster, Germany on 31 May - 3 June 2007.
The aim of the conference is to offer a forum for scientists, scholars and researchers involved and interested in the sociology of sport at local, national and European level.
Especially the European perspective has always been important for the city and the University of Münster.
The Westfalian Wilhelms-University of Münster is Germany’s third biggest university with about 40,000 students and has been a centre of international an European research and teaching ever since 1780. At the moment, the University has about 3,500 students and 200 scientists from other countries.
Organizing international meetings is a good tradition in Münster ever since the city hosted the negotiations of the Peace of Westfalia in 1648. The near borders to the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Scandinavia have influenced the city’s history as well as its inhabitants.
The capital of the Münsterland with its 280,000 inhabitants is a city of rich cultural offers, ancient building monuments, modern sculptures, and also offers different recreation areas such as the Aa-Lake, the canal or the countless student pubs.
The city and University of Münster therefore form an ideal location for the 4th Conference of the European Association for Sociology of Sport (EASS) and welcome you to a pleasant stay in Münster.
