The Host City
Münster - The home to the Peace of Westphalia
It was in 1648 when Münster already created a name for
itself as a ”congress location”. 150 legations from all over
Europe, including their entourage, came to negotiate the end
of the Thirty Years War. For four years, Münster had to
accommodate and cater not only for its then 10,000
inhabitants, but also for an almost equal number of visitors.
A supreme achievement, especially in times of war. But the
effort proved worthwhile: the Peace of Westphalia was signed
and sealed at Münster’s Town Hall.
Today, Münster is a young and modern city with 280,000
inhabitants, including more than 40,000 students, an innovative
and strong economic location, and a city of science and savoir
vivre. Still, it has remained faithful to its tradition being a
city full of history, culture, atmosphere, scenery, and culinary
delicacies. Apart from being a university town, Münster is a
Hanseatic City, the bicycle capital of Germany and one of the
member cities of the ”Historic Highlights of Germany”.
How to get there
Münster has an international airport (FMO), so that the conference
location can easily be reached. Münster is reachable by car on
the motorways A 1 and A 43. The main station is only a few
minutes from the conference location and the accommodation.
The conference location can be reached by all busses via the bus
station Bült about 50 mts. from the Stadtweinhaus.
